Frequently Asked Questions

Patients generally consider seeking medical care outside of their home country for three reasons: Cost, access, and quality. Jamaica satisfies all three criteria. Using the United States of America as an example, the cost for procedures facilitated by Optimacare Medical are generally 50 to 80 per cent lower in Jamaica. Further, through Optimacare Medical, you will have access to highly skilled specialists whose experience in their related surgical disciplines exposed them to techniques which help to reduce the rate of infection and lessens recovery time. So much so, that Jamaica has for years served the people of the Caribbean and diasporic communities in North America and the United Kingdom. In addition, we guarantee complete confidentiality to all of our patients. In addition, Jamaica’s rich vegetation, indigenous natural herbs, and mineral spas are excellent for wellness and relaxation as you recover in a “must visit” travel destination.

Jamaica is renowned for its highly trained doctors, nurses and medical technicians. Many of our doctors are locally trained where they receive their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Science and subsequent surgical specialization. However, several others receive training in Australia, Canada, the United States of America, United Kingdom and Scotland.

The pricing of healthcare is based on factors such wage rates, patient’s ability to pay, insurance costs, cost of living, and the current regulations governing the health industry. Notwithstanding, health care is much more affordable in Jamaica than most industrialised countries. This has in no way affected the quality of care provided, given the surgeon’s training and exposure to effective patient care and management techniques.

Based on the precautions used during your surgery and post-operative care, the chances of developing an infection when you return home are low. Nevertheless, we provide you with a follow-up discharge care which advises each patient on how to properly manage their wound. If, however, despite following all the proper care you develop an infection, you should visit your primary care provider with whom we have coordinated follow-up care, including having sent an update of your medical history, the surgery report and discharge plan.
